Covid update: We are open & welcoming new patients

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

White teeth look healthier, but is all teeth whitening safe for teeth? The answer is, no. That’s why the UK government decided that only dental professionals are allowed offer teeth bleaching. It’s illegal for beauticians, hairdressers or salons to do teeth whitening, even if they tell you they’re insured.

The only people who can legally whiten teeth are:

  • Registered dentists
  • Dental therapists
  • Dental hygienists
  • Clinical dental technicians (working to the prescription of a dentist)

Your dentist knows your oral health and can make sure you get the best results without damaging your teeth or gums. We will monitor your progress, and treat any sensitivity issues that may arise. Teeth are a vital part of living well and looking good; is it worth taking chances?

Over-the-counter kits vs. dentist whitening

It’s tempting to pick up a kit when you’re browsing the shelves at the chemist. But if you want to make your yellow teeth whiter you could be wasting your money. Over-the-counter kits can remove stains, but they can’t change the colour of your teeth – their chemical solutions are not strong enough.

In the meantime, here is some information on each of our teeth whitening treatments:

Optident Opalescence

Opalescence whitening gel has been described as ‘the most tried and tested tooth whitening product in the world.’ It was first on-the-go whitening system to offer professional results.

  • Gives you real white results
Opalescence gives you outstanding results. You’ll get a brighter, whiter smile and treatment that fits your budget and lifestyle.
  • Protects your teeth
Opalescence contains the optimum combination of potassium nitrate and fluoride (PF). Studies have shown that potassium nitrate and fluoride strengthen enamel, decrease sensitivity, and lower the risk of caries (tooth decay).
  • Maintains your mouth pH levels
It is important you use a whitening product with a pH that closely matches your mouth’s natural pH. If your pH level drops (between 5.5 and 6.5), bacteria can thrive. Opalescence products include agents that maintain neutral pH levels (between 7-8) in your mouth, protecting your teeth from decay while you’re using your whitening system.
  • It’s pleasant to use
Opalescence comes in different flavours and is sweetened with xylitol, so you don’t have to put up with a horrible taste in your mouth.

Philips Zoom

10 million people worldwide have been treated with Philips Zoom. Choose from two unique whitening programs:

  • DayWhite – Wear your trays for 15 to 30 minutes twice a day (depending on your dentist’s recommendation).
  • NiteWhite – Wear your trays for either one to two hours a day or overnight (depending on your dentist’s recommendation).

Both whitening systems offer:
