Toothache occurs when the innermost layer of the tooth becomes inflamed. Dental pulp can become inflamed by: tooth decay, a cracked tooth, loose/broken filling, receding gums or periapical abscess.
Treatment for toothache will depend on the cause but may involve having a filling, root canal treatment or removing the tooth.
